Neil Wright Neil Wright studied organ, piano, harpsichord and clavichord at the Royal Northern College of Music with Dame Gillian Weir, Eric Chadwick and Robert Elliott. He was awarded the RNCM prize for playing Bach. In 1976 he came to public attention when he was featured on BBC television playing the organ of Manchester Town Hall. In 1979 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, winning the Dixon Prize for extemporisation. On his return to England from the United States, where he had worked both as an organist and singer, he settled in Canterbury becoming a lay clerk in the Cathedral Choir. During this time he undertook further study in improvisation and composition with Naji Hakim. He also attended improvisation classes with Peter Planyavsky, Bert Matter, Guy Bovet and Loïc Mallié. Among his compositions for organ are Idyll: a country far beyond the stars first performed at the Brompton Oratory, London in 2001 and A Dreame and Fugue Angelicall, first performed in Bayonne, France in 1999. Other works include a Mass, Songs, and latin motets including music for the liturgy of Holy Week. In 1994 he was appointed Assistant Organist of the Brompton Oratory, and in 1996, 1998 and 2000 he won finalist prizes at the prestigious International Organ Improvisation Competitions in Nuremberg and Haarlem, Netherlands. He has given concerts in Europe and the United States not only as an organist but as pianist, harpsichordist and countertenor. In 2003 he directed the Orchestra of the Nord Ostsee Barockmusic Festival, Germany and in 2004 joined the City of London Chamber Players as harpsichordist. In 2001 Neil was appointed Organist of the recently restored Cavaillé-Coll organ at St Michael's Abbey, Farnborough, Hampshire. Of his CD recording of works by Franck, Berlioz

Neil Wright - organist Neil Wright, geboren in England, studierte Orgel am Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester bei Dame Gilian Weir und Eric Chadwick, sowie Klavier bei Marjorie Clementi, des weiteren Cembalo und Clavichord. Bereits während seines Studiums wurde er für seine Bach-Interpretationen mit dem Pinson-Preis der Hochschule ausgezeichnet und graduierte dort mit Honours cum laude. 1976 präsentierte die BBC ihn dem Fernsehpublikum mit einem Programm, in dem er Musik von Widor auf der Orgel der Manchester Town Hall spielte. 1979 wurde ihm der Titel eines Fellow of the Royal Collegs of Organists verliehen und er erhielt den Preis des Konservatoriums für Improvisation. In den 80er Jahren lebte und wirkte Neil Wright in Los Angeles als Chorleiter, Organist und Sänger und gründete während dieser Zeit das Ensemble für Alte Musik Lauda, das unter seiner Leitung erfolgreich auftrat. 1990-94 war er festes Mitglied des Chores der Kathedrale von Canterbury. Während dieser Zeit vertiefte er seine Studien in Improvisation und Komposition bei Naji Hakim, Peter Planyavsky, Bert Matter, Guy Bovet und Loic Maillié. In der Zeit von 1994 bis 2001 war Neil Wright stellvertretender Organist der Brompton Oratory in London, wo er sich besonders durch seine hervorragenden Improvisationen einen Namen machte. Darüberhinaus gewann er mit ihnen Preise beim Internationalen Orgelimprovisations-Wettbewerb in Haarlem, Niederlanden 1996 und 2000, sowie beim Improvisations-Wettbewerb in Nürnberg 1999. 2001 wurde Neil Wright zum Organisten der St. Michaels Abtei in Farnborough berufen, 2003 präsentierte das Label Priory Records seine CD Le Tombeau d'Eugenie als erste Einspielung der Cavaillé-Coll-Orgel von Farnborough nach ihrer Restaurierung durch die Firma Klais. Eine weitere CD mit Werken von Franck, Jongen und Saint-Saens wird in Kürze bei dem Label Portico erscheinen. Als herausragender Cembalist und Continuo-Spieler tritt Neil Wright gemeinsam sowohl mit modernen Orchestern als auch mit Ensembles mit Originalinstrumenten in Großbritannien auf. Zur Zeit arbeitet er an der Einspielung der Sonaten von J. S. Bach für Violine und obligates Cembalo mit den City of London Chamber Players Auch als Komponist ist Neil Wright bekannt. A Dream and Fugue Angelicall für Orgel wurde 1999 in Bayonne, Frankreich sowie Choral in Memoriam Olivier Messiaen 2001 in London an der Brompton Oratory uraufgeführt. Viele seiner Kompositionen für Chor, besonders seine a capella Motetten, werden durch den Choir of The Holy Redeemer and St. Thomas More, London, (Leitung: David Bevan), aufgeführt. Neil Wright hat in New York, London, Paris, Amsterdam konzertiert.
Im Jahr 2003 spielte er ein Konzert auf der Arp-Schnitger-Orgel zu
Pellworm im Rahmen des Nordfriesland-Barockmusik-Festivals und dirigierte
das Festival-Orchester. Er wird in seinen Konzerten begeistert vom
Publikum gefeiert. Auch in diesem Jahr wird er wieder auf Orgeln in
